What is a MASTER course in Talon and why would I use it?

A MASTER shell is a special kind of DEV course that can be published to everyone teaching a section of the course. Once published, every instructor assigned to teach a section of the course is automatically added to the MASTER with a view and copy role. The creator of the MASTER is enrolled as an instructor and can add instructors if collaborative builds are happening. In a nutshell, MASTER courses provide an easy way to share course contents with adjuncts and others assigned to the course.

You can request a MASTER course on the Course Management site. Click on Request Master Course. Then choose the course you want to create a MASTER for or search for a course code if the course is not listed.

Notes
Note, you can also create multiple MASTER courses if needed. Some instructors have done this for different formats (online, f2f, etc). We can append to the title as needed to distinguish different master courses.

How to Publish a Master Course

Once the content is all loaded and ready for publishing, you would revisit the Course Management page > click on My Talon Courses > click the pencil icon next to the master course title to edit settings and check the box to share. Then submit. This notifies a Talon admin to check for content, and then publish it.
