What is a Course Design Template and How Can I Use It?

If you are starting a new course design, consider copying content from one of our available Course Design Template courses to get started. Every instructor at Kirkwood should automatically have access to copy from these templates. The templates provide a starting frame into which you can insert your own materials as well as instructor support resources. After copying the content into a course, you can make all the edits and changes you want to mold the template to fit your course.

Currently Available Templates

  1. DEV Course Design Template - 16 Mods (Course Code: WB12718_XDEV1)
  2. DEV Course Design Template - 8 Mods (Course Code: WB12719_XDEV1)
As the names suggest, the designs have different number of modules. In the 8 Mods design, all the modules are on the main-level of the Table of Contents. In the 16 Mods design, we've created them as submodules under 4 unit modules. You can rename these in any way suitable to your preference -- that could be weekly modules, or chapter modules, or even activity type modules. Make your changes consistent throughout the course to help students navigate more easily.

How to Copy a Template

  1. Log into the course you want to copy into
  2. Go to Course Admin > Import/Export/Copy Components
  3. Click the Search for Offering button
  4. Enter one of the course names above or use the course code to be extra specific
  5. Click the Search button
  6. Select the course from the search results, and click the Add Selected button
  7. Click the Copy All Components button to copy the entire template course
Notes
NOTE: If you want to only copy part of the Template course, you can choose to copy Select Components instead, but it is often easier to copy everything and delete what you don't want.
