You can make changes to Completion Tracking settings to inform Talon when items are complete. There are three completion tracking options.
Classic Content Experience
You can change these globally for all content in Course Content (click Course Content > “Settings” at the upper right of the main window) > Scroll down to Completion Tracking settings.
Automatic will attempt to mark items complete when students submit (quizzes, assignments) or view items (like files or links). Manual will offer the students a check box they can use to mark items complete manually when they want to. Not Required means no tracking is taking place.
You can also change individual items Completion Tracking. Click on the Module in the Table of Contents, then, in the main window, click the completion tracking symbol to edit the setting. The symbol for Not Required will be a double dash (- -).
New Content Experience
Completion tracking is set to Not Required by default in the new content experience. To enable completion tracking, click on the ... icon at the top right of the item page and choose "Set as Required."
For content items that are submitted (e.g. Quizzes, Assignments, Discussions, etc), required completion tracking will be automatically marked complete for students upon submission. There is currently no option that would allow students to manually mark completion of these items. You could use a Checklist item instead if this was essential. For other items (e.g. Pages, Links, etc), you can edit the item and change the Completion Tracking setting to "Manually Marked" if you want students to check the item as complete themselves.
