How can make an activity or grade item not count for a student?
You can leave a grade item blank for a student and it will not count in the overall score. However, if Talon inserts a zero automatically for a non-submission, or if you want to enable "Treat ungraded items as zero" at the end of the term, leaving it blank is not a good option. Instead, you can mark this activity or grade item exempt for the student or multiple students.
Exempting a Grade Item for One or More Students
- Go to the Grades Tool on the navigation menu and click on Enter Grades (if it didn't take you there by default)
- Find the grade item you wish to exempt one or more students from
- Click the Action Menu dropdown arrow after the grade item column name and select "Enter Grades"
- Select the student(s) you wish to Exempt
- Click the Exempt link at the top of the list

Note: You can unexempt grade items in much the same way.
