How can I delete grade items in the gradebook?
The delete page can be found under Grades > Manage Grades, click the More Actions button near the top of the page and choose Delete. Then you can select the grade items or grade categories you wish to remove. Finally, click the Delete button near the bottom of the page.
But I Can't Select the Grade Item on the Delete Page
This happens when the grade item is still connected to an activity in the course. That might be an Assignment, Quiz, Discussion, or an External Learning Tool. When this is the case, you will need to break the connection first before you can delete the grade item.
You will know this is the case, when back on the Manage Grades page, you see text and an icon with a question mark listed in the Association column. Any grade item with this icon is currently connected (aka has an association) to an activity. The text refers to the type of activity and when you click the icon, you can find the name of the activity.

Note, even though the activity may have been removed from Course Content modules, it can still be connected to the Grade Item.
There are generally two methods to remove the connection to the grade item.
- Delete the activity from the specific tool page (e.g. Course Admin > Assignments)
- Edit the activity, and set it back to "Reset to Ungraded" or "Not in Grade Book"
