How can I best create video presentations or ask students to use video as part of their assignments?
This is a great option for the creation of the video, but you will still need a place to host and serve the video to students. For that, Panopto is our recommendation.
Panopto
Kirkwood has partnered with Panopto to offer a more robust media service. You can add the Panopto Video element to any Talon course to get your account created and a folder for your course created. When you create a folder for your course, a student Assignment folder is also created. Students will have the ability to create videos inside this Assignment folder. Check out the
Panopto for Everyone video series to learn what's possible.
Zoom
Most instructors have some Zoom skills that can prove useful here. If you want to record yourself (increase instructor presence) and/or your computer screen or presentation, connect a webcam, share your screen and start the recording. You can also connect your Zoom account to Panopto so that whenever you create a recording to the cloud in Zoom, that recording will be saved in Panopto automatically. This makes it easy to add to a Talon course later. For more info, see
How can I move a Zoom recording to Panopto?
The Media Library is a Talon tool you can use to upload video or audio. You will need to take some extra steps to get it to add closed captioning here, but it's just a few clicks away. The tool doesn't come with all the same feature as Panopto (quizzing, statistical analysis), but they are adding to the tool. You can find the Media Library under the cog wheel icon at the top right of Talon. Click on Add Asset to upload your file(s).
