My students can't see their overall grade in Talon. How can I change that?
There are two overall grade options in Talon: the Calculated Grade and the Adjusted Grade. The default settings for a new course automatically release The Calculated Grade. However, if you've copied content from another course, that course might have been set differently which would impact your course.
Review the Calculation Options
- Click on Grades in the course navigation menu and then click the Settings link at the upper right.
- Click on the Calculation Options tab
- Scroll down to the Final Grades Released section
- Choose the overall grade column you wish to use in your course
- Check the checkbox "Automatically release final grade"

Note: The "Automatically release final grade will only affect new students added to the course. For students already in the course, you will need to manually release their final grade.
Manually Releasing the Final/Overall Grade
- Click on Grades > Enter Grades
- Find your chosen overall grade column (i.e. Calculated Grade or Adjusted Grade). You should see an eye icon in this column. An eye with a slash over it means the grades are not released to students.
- Click the down arrow action menu for your chosen overall grade item and select "Enter Grades"
- At the top of the Overall Grades page, click the down arrow action menu after the page title and choose "Release All"
- Click Yes to confirm.
