All test takers are required to present a valid and acceptable form of photo identification prior to being admitted to their exams. Subject to the procedure below, the Test Center staff have discretion for determining the validity of any ID presented.
General rules for identification
The following rules apply to all identification documents:
- Must be an original document. Photographs, copies, scans, faxes, and emails of documents are not acceptable.
- Must bear the test taker's full name, in Latin characters, as it appears on the test taker's registration.
- Must bear a recent, recognizable photo that clearly resembles the test taker.
- Must not be expired.
- Must be issued by a recognized government authority or educational institution.
Acceptable identification
Kirkwood students taking Kirkwood course exams
- Kirkwood student ID card
- Any other acceptable form of ID listed in this article
All other test takers
All other test takers must present a valid government issued photo ID. Examples of acceptable IDs include:
Driver license
- National, state, or tribal identification card
- Passport book or passport card
- U.S. Department of Defense Common Access Card (CAC)
- Uniformed Services ID Card
Unacceptable identification
The following are examples of unacceptable identification at the Test Center:
- Employee ID card (exception: Kirkwood faculty and staff may use their employee ID badge)
- Social Security card
- Birth certificate
- Letter or email of identification written on behalf of the test taker, or phone calls to the Test Center
- ID of a parent, guardian, or other relative
- School yearbook photo, report card, or diploma
- Police report of a stolen wallet or purse
- Traffic ticket
- Fitness center, shopping club, or other membership card
- Hunting or fishing license
- Utility bill
- Any document that is worn, torn, scuffed, scarred, or otherwise damaged such that any part of the text is illegible or any part of the photograph is unrecognizable.
Third-party exams and identification
Third-party exam sponsors often have stricter or more specific ID requirements, which supersede the Test Center's procedures if a conflict exists. Individuals taking third-party sponsored exams are encouraged to verify their exam sponsor's identification requirements prior to coming to the Test Center.
