This course will explain several considerations and practices for creating more authentic connections and interactions between students in asynchronous learning environments, and also provide some more creative ways to use the discussion tool in Talon. This training has been developed to provide faculty, administration, and staff information about the design, development, and delivery of a competency-based education (CBE) course for students. The training has two parts—the first part is completed asynchronously in TALON (about 5 hours) and the second part is completed synchronously via Zoom (1 hour). The training addresses the following topics: CBE basics (definitions, implications, backward design), logistics and expectations for developing a CBE course, logistics and expectations for facilitating a CBE course, documentation, roles and responsibilities, assessment, and feedback. This session will look specifically at time management and the challenges that students at community college can face while navigating their personal lives and their commitment to their education.
