How can I text students?

Remind (now part of ParentSquare) is a communication platform you can use at Kirkwood to send messages to students. The messages can be received as texts, as emails, and/or on the Remind app for iOS and Android devices. How you and students choose to receive messages is customizable per user, but text messages is the most common. 

Credit Courses

Kirkwood automatically creates a Remind class for every Talon credit course offering, and enrolls the students for you. All you need to do, is log into Remind.com and claim your classes. You can do this at any time during the term as long as the course remains open. Your account has already been created for you, click the Login link to login. If it is your first time accessing Remind, use the Forgot password option to reset your password.

Note: Faculty and staff remind usernames will be your Kirkwood email address in the form of First.LastName@kirkwood.edu 

Custom Classes in Remind

It is also possible to create custom classes in Remind and add students manually, or invite them to join the class themselves. When students opt-in they are more likely to pay attention to your messages since they expect to receive them. 

Sending Messages

Once your class is set up or claimed in Remind, you can send Announcements (whole class), or Messages (individuals or groups of up to 10). 

Note: When sending a group message, it creates a group text -- members' replies will go to the whole group.
